64 CRAYONS BAND
Back in the day if you were lucky enough to get a new box of 64 crayons for school (with the built in sharpener!), you were one of the cool kids. Well, we wanted to be the cool kids and since Interstate 64 runs east to west through Richmond and we are a Richmond-based band, our name was born. The 64 Crayons Band is an acoustic based three-, four- or more piece group. We play a colorful variety of music from various eras including acoustic rock, classic rock, contemporary country, pop and some originals. We are proud of our wall of vocals, as well as our fresh song arrangements and entertaining style.
MARNA BALES (Hand Drums/Percussion & Vocals)
An accomplished vocalist, Marna has sung jingles for local, regional and national ad campaigns and has been performing in bands for more than 25 years. She performed for the Queen of England and has shared the stage with Charlie Daniels, Gary Allan, Marshall Tucker Band and Trace Adkins to name a few. Some of the events and venues she has performed include: Busch Gardens, The State Fair of Virginia, CountryFest, Innsbrook After Hours, Friday Cheers, Dogwood Dell, Pocahontas State Park, the Delaplane Strawberry Festival, the Urbanna Oyster Festival, the Hanover Tomato Festival, and the Jefferson Center in Roanoke. Her recent bands (“Marna Bales Band” and “Marna & Macy”) produced two albums and an EP that received local and regional airplay. Her music video ‘Wave’ aired nationally on GAC and “Marna & Macy” were finalists in CMT’s Music City Madness Video contest for their single and music video called “Queen of the Neighborhood.” The “Marna Bales Band” was showcased on the Emmy nominated and nationally aired PBS series called THE MUSIC SEEN. And the song “Wish You Hadn’t Come Around” was featured in the 2009 film called Coyote County Loser. Marna has recorded with Bruce Hornsby and has sung on dozens of recordings for local and regional artists.
JODY BOYD (Acoustic Guitar & Vocals)
Jody Boyd’s skills are born from a three-decade history with professional music. He attended Virginia Tech as the honoree of various scholarships and finished his Bachelors of Music degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. While working on his Masters degree, Jody was also a graduate teaching assistant at the prestigious Eastman School of Music in New York. He is a widely regarded studio musician—with more than 25 years of professional experience. His ability to play many instruments (including drums/percussion, guitar and keyboards), and many styles of music gives Jody a rare versatility. He has performed with the Roanoke and Richmond Virginia symphonies as well as many regional bands including Junk Food Buddha, No Small Feet, Marna Bales Band and Marna & Macy and The Honkytonk Heroes. By day, Jody channels his experience into his music compositions and award winning sound design and mixing skills for a wide variety of clients and projects at Red Amp Audio, the recording studio he owns with Marna Bales. He is also a gifted and sought after music producer and has produced dozens of recordings for local and regional artists.
DAVE ‘SULLY’ SULLIVAN (Acoustic Guitar & Vocals)
Sully made his stage debut singing ‘The Monster Mash’ in a tight fitting Dracula costume, a performance for which he won his sixth grade talent show. The next year he raised the bar performing an a cappella version of ‘Suicide is Painless -the theme from M.A.S.H.’ for which he was banned from ever appearing in school talent shows again. Little did he know then, that this musical identity crisis would define his career for the next 25 years. Sully has been a southern rocker, metal screamer, blues man, soul crooner, electro-lounger and a “disco” king in various local and regional bands. So belting out the wide and colorful range of music this band covers comes very naturally to Sully. He is also the ultimate entertainer and is almost never afraid to try a song request.
TOM TUCCIARONE (Bass & Vocals)
Tom’s brother played guitar so he talked Tom into playing bass in order to have someone to play with! As a band member of Tom Jones 1993 World Tour, he played shows at the MGM Hotel Las Vegas, Caesars Palace in Atlantic City, and at the Perth Australia Wine Festival. He performed on the SS Azure Seas Cruise Line on their Aruba tours. And when he lived in Los Angeles, he was the bass player for the Sherman Hemsley show band where he played on the Arsenio Hall show. He was in the warm up band for the Bob Newhart Show, Amen and Designing Women. Also while in Los Angeles, Tom was a member of the “Peanut Butter Jam Band” – a house band that performed with invited guest artists such as: REO Speed Wagon, Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Willis, and many others. Tom has recorded and performed with many local, regional and national artists including Peter White, smooth Jazz Guitarist (Catalina Jazz Festival and San Diego Jazz Festival).
